Valdaora introduction


General Information

Valdaora, also known as Olang, is a municipality in Bolzano-Bozen of the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. It is located 60 kilometers to the north east of Bolzano (Bozen) City and 100 kilometers to the north east of Trento City. It has a population of around 2,878 people. Valdaora comprise of Valdaora di Sopra, Valdaora di Sotto, Valdaora di Mezzo, Sorafurcia and Frazioni. It is bordered by Welsberg-Taisten, Rasen-Antholz, Mareo, Prags and Bruneck. Valdaora lies in the heart of Pluster Valley and has 7 valleys joining it namely the Valley of Casies (Gsiesertal) which is a heavenly site with mountains in the background. The Val Badia (Gadertal) is a great place for a day excursion. Similarly, the Cortina, Puster Valley, Valley of Anterselva (Antholzertal), Valle Aurina (Ahrntal), Valley of Prags (Pragser Tal) are some great places for hiking trips.


Winter activities

Valdaora’s local mountain, the Kronplatz is a fabulous skiing place with a 100 kilometer run. It has 20 cableways, 6 chairlifts and 5 ski lifts for the skiers and 4 downhill runs of length 6.5 km for the skiers to enjoy. The lifts carry about 64,000 people every hour, so the skiers do not have to wait for long for their turn. There are about 100 kilometers of slopes, which facilitate skiers with all levels of expertise. Snowboarding is also pretty much popular at Valdaora. Valdaora also provide cross country skiing and has 10 kilometers long course. Moreover tourists can enjoy tobogganing. There are 5 exciting courses for tobogganing. Besides skiing, there are great many opportunities for other adventurous activities too like sightseeing, ice skating, moonlight tobogganing, and hiking.


Summer activities

In summers also, there are many activities to spend a freaking day out in Valdaora. Hiking is one of them. Valdaora lies between the Dolomites and the Vedrette di Ries Alps thus making it a good place for walks as well as hiking trips. Another summer activity is Nordic walking. Valdaora provides the Europe's largest Nordic Walking park. There are guided Nordic walking tours available also. Moreover there are many mountain biking routes to enjoy the peak of adventure. There are lots of sightseeing destinations along these routes. Valdaora also has two 9-hole golf courses surrounded by scenic landscapes.


Additional information

The Earth Pyramids of Valdaora are worth seeing. They lie in the localities of Platten, Terenten and Ritten near Bozen. These Earth Pyramids are the remains of prehistoric glaciers formed due to corrosion of wind, water and frost. Moreover, there are many castles serving as fabulous sightseeing destinations. Some notable ones are Castle Badia, Castle Ehrenburg, Castle Welsperg and Castle Taufers in Sand.
