Castello di Fiemme introduction

General Information
Castello di Fiemme is situated in the Val di Fiemme of the Italian Alps and is one of the many villages in the Dolomites. The resort is at an elevation of 963 meters or about 3,100 feet. The Val di Fiemme starts at an elevation of 860 meters, or about 2,800 feet, and rises to an elevation of 2,600 meters, or about 8,500 feet. Castello di Fiemme forms part of the Dolomiti Superski Ski Area and so there is access to a great deal of activities and ski areas to skiers and snowboarders alike. The church in the centre of the town is visible for miles because of its position. Castello di Fiemme is also the seat of the local authorities of the valley, and the buildings in the town center date back to the 16th century.

Winter Activities
Val di Fiemme provides for top-notch Nordic and downhill skiing along with many other skiing activities in the heart of Dolomites. The facilities offered for skiing are one of its kind followed by innumerable events and activities that showcases the rich cultural background of the valley. Latemar Ski center is the biggest and the most popular center for skiing downhill, which extends amidst Bolzana and Trento. Some other prominenet ski centers of the valley are - Lagorai chain, Sassolungo, , Cimon della Pala Sella,and Rosengarten. With a total of 150 km of cross country tracks, Val di Fiemme is quite a popular destination for staging cross-country world championships for skiing; the valley has all the requisites to convince and provide challenges to experts in the field.

Summer Activities
“Porta delle Dolomiti’ meaning the Door to the Dolomites is the other name for Castello di Fiemme. Hiking and walking are the popular activities in the summer over here. Soccer, tennis, and bowling can be practiced at the sports fields, as well as relaxing in the Jacuzzis. There is an adventure park with zip lines and rope bridges for people of all levels of experience. Mountain biking, rock-climbing, mountaineering, and hiking are also other activities during the summer. For those who enjoy water sports, Avisio River provides for river-rafting and fishing along with swimming. Horseback-riding and Nordic walking can be enjoyed over the well maintained trails of the valley, which also provide some picturesque views of the dolomites.

Other Information
Which country Val di Fiemme was in was actually in dispute between Austria and Italy until 1971 when a treaty was signed handing the valley over to Italy. There is a tour that covers a number of villages that celebrates cheese. At each village, the visitor can taste samples of cheese and other items made in that village. Also, there are tours of the farms and a chance to experience the traditional village life. Nordic Ski World Championship will be returning to Val di Fiemme in 2013.
