Cavalese introduction
Cavalese is one of the 11 winter resorts situated in the Val di Fiemme ski area, Northern Italy. Cavalese is the main town in the valley and has long historical traditions, evidences of which may be found in several places of interest. These are the Franciscan Convent and the Church of St. Vigilio, which preserve significant works of the Fiemme school and representations of Franciscan saints of the 17 c., and the tower and church of St. Sebastiano and Fabiano, which dominates the entire village. The old village centre with its cobbled streets has preserved its medieval atmosphere, while there are a number of modern cafes and pizzerias. In addition, there are great panoramic views to the Latemar and Catinaccio Mountains.
Situated by the magnificient alpe Ceramis, Cavalese has 70 km of local slopes with a connection to a total of 150 km of runs and the Sella Ronda cuircuit. Breathtaking views open when one takes the cable car to the easiest runs. Cavalese is the Italian centre for cross-country skiing. The ski area of Alpi di Cermis has north slopes, which means Cavalese has an excellent snow record. The resort offers a small number of pistes for beginners but it is very suitable for intermediate skiers because most of the runs are designed to meet their abilities. Advanced skiers will find Cavalese a nice place because it offers a number of first class off-pistes. Moreover, Cavalese is a resort with central location and it has access to a number of other wonderful skiing areas.
Cavalese is in close proximity to the mountain range Lagorai, which is an ideal destination for wonderful excursions of ski touring and summer trekking. Accomodation is mainly provided by fmily-run hotels, while there are restaurants and pizzerias for eating out.
The sports and leisure activities the resort offers are: cinema, skidoo, a gym, ice-skating, a heated outdoor pool, walking trails. The place is a starting point for superb excursions with Trento 52 km away.
