Pampeago introduction
General Information
Pampeago lies in the Val de Fiemme in the Italian Alps and is one of the many villages in the Dolomites. Pampeago lies between the ski centers of Lake Tesero and Alpe de Pampeago. There is free shuttle service between Pampeago and Lake Tesero. There are also many events, both cultural and culinary. The resort is at an elevation of 1,760 meters, or about 5,800 feet, and the highest lift goes to an elevation of 2,415 meters, or about 7,900 feet. The ski resorts at Obereggen and Predazzo, Bellamonte, and Alpe Luisa form a huge ski area linked to Pampeago. Combined with other resorts in Val De Fiemme, there are plenty of activities both off and on the snow.
Winter Activities
Skiing is the popular sport in the winter even though in Pampeago, it is mostly for skiers of intermediate to expert experience levels. There are 8 lifts and several slopes in the ski area. The resort is one with the ski centers of Alpe Lusia and Latemar. Cross-country skiing is possible because of Marcialonga which is nearby. Marcialonga is the place where the 1991 and 2003 Nordic Skiing World Championships were held. Snowshoeing is also one of the major winter activities. There are guides for the trails if desired. There are 7 ski schools in the linked ski area for those who wish to take lessons. There is a bus that services the entire valley. Also, there are folklore festivals and concerts. There is ice skating, both on the lakes and on an ice rink. There is ice climbing and paragliding. The resorts do have the ability to make snow mechanically, as they own snow cannons.
Summer Activities
Hiking and walking are the popular activities in the summer. The adventure park with zip lines and rope bridges is a fascination for people of all levels of experience. Mountain biking, rock-climbing, and mountaineering are other preferred activities during the summer. For those who enjoy water sports, there is river-rafting and fishing along with swimming, thanks to the River Otani, which provides for such a friendly landscape. Horseback-riding is another favorite activity in the valley as also Nordic walking. Assumption Week, one of the main events of Summer that takes place in August, happens to be celebrated with fireworks, town feasts, torchlights, concerts, games, and dances.
Other Information
Marcialonga, the cross country skiing race, takes place in January in Val de Fiemme. The first Marcialonga was held in 1973. There is also a running race held in the summer at Marcialonga. There is handcraft centre that has many exhibits of the handcrafts made by the villagers that display traditional village life. There are museums that display historical events and many artifacts that portray their rich traditional values. The Paneveggio and Monte Corno nature parks are within the valley and offer many nature walks. The red fir of the Val di Fiemme was used to make the Stradivarius violins.
