Antey St. Andre, Italy guide

Antey St. Andre introduction

General Information
Antey St. Andre is set in the middle of the Valley of the Matterhorn in the Italian Alps, and has beautiful views of the Matterhorn. The resort is at an elevation of 1,080 meters or about 3,500 feet. For additional places to visit, Antey St Andre is also close to the ski resorts of Torgnon, Chamois, Valtournenche, and Cervinia. The climate in Antey St. Andre is stable and mild all year long because of its location. Antey St. Andre also has one of Europe’s major outdoor climbing centers. And the town has a long history beginning with the Roman conquest of the valley. There is also an aquaduct that dates back to the 14th century nearby that had been used for irrigation.

Winter Activities
Skiers of all level of experience can find slopes suitable for them. If the more experienced skiers want other ski areas, there is a cable car to Chamois for additional skiing. The cross-country trail starts in town; however, the ski slopes are actually a few miles away much closer to the Matterhorn. Snowboarders can find many slopes suitable for them but, even if they are not satisfied with the slopes near the resort, Antey St. Andre is close to other resorts which do have slopes and snow parks for snowboarders. There are ample of opportunities for cross-country skiing with trails reachable within the town, but to find the alpine pistes a few miles drive is needed. Snowshoeing, hiking, and paragliding are other activities of interest. There are also festivals and concerts during the winter.

Summer Activities
During the summer, there are a number of crafts fairs which demonstrate the traditional skills of the area and markets where tourists can buy many handmade crafts. Soccer, tennis, and bowling can be practiced at the sports center; as well as relaxing can be done in the Jacuzzis. There is an adventure park with zip lines and rope bridges for people of all levels of experience. Mountain biking, rock-climbing, mountaineering, and hiking are some other activities during the summer. For those who enjoy water sports, there is river-rafting and fishing. There are guided walks up the trails towards the Matterhorn. Horseback-riding is another interesting activity to freak out in summers.

Other Information
Antey St. Andre is proud of its history and heritage and there are many museums and festivals commemorating them. There are still buildings from the various periods of occupation available for tours and there are a variety of exhibitions celebrating the local culture and traditions. There are also a number of different churches and chapels that can be toured. At the end of World War I, a flu outbreak decimated the population but since then, the number of inhabitants has grown. And the town and the resort have grown as well.
