St. Ulrich introduction
General information
St. Ulrich, also known as Ortisei, is a village in the Gardena Valley of the province Bolzano-Bozen of the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. It has a population of about 4,500. It lies 5 kilometers from Selva. The borders of St. Ulrich come in contact with Lajen, Villnöß, Kastelruth, and Santa Cristina Gherdëina.
St. Ulrich is characterized by many beautiful pastel-colored buildings, restaurants and boutiques. The central area of St. Ulrich is for pedestrians only and it is a nice place for meeting.
The economic growth of St. Ulrich elevated when a major road was opened which connected Gardena Valley (or Val Gardena) to the main railroad. It resulted in the growth of the local woodcarving industry. Moreover, tourism industry greatly flourished.
Winter activities
St. Ulrich offers great opportunities for skiing in winters. The Buchensteinwand family skiing area is a good place for the beginners and the experts. St. Ulrich has an area of 19 kilometers for downhill skiing having 7 ski lifts which lifts up to 3,000 skiers every hour. Moreover there is facility for cross-country skiing with a track of 30 kilometers. In addition there is an indoor swimming pool with facilities for tanning beds and sauna along with some nice restaurants. Tourists can also enjoy various ice sports like ice skating on the ice rink and dog sledding over the frozen lake. Furthermore, there is a hiking trail of 30 kilometers. Skiers can also enjoy the sleigh rides, snowboarding and 6 kilometers of Toboggan Run.

Surrounded by Loferer Steinberge Mountains and Pillersee Lake, St. Ulrich is an ideal place for the nature lovers to spend the summers. St. Ulrich provides great adventurous opportunities for the hikers, mountaineers and walkers. Moreover, the cool waters of Pillersee Lake will prove delightful to the tourists. There are 70 kilometers of hiking trails also. In summers, tourists can enjoy the horse riding, mountain biking, fishing in the lake, beach volleyball, and the adventure park. Moreover, in St. Ulrich there are various other sports facilities for billiards, mini golf, squash and tennis. There are swimming pools also along with sauna and several fitness centers. Some other resort attractions are bowling, Mardolomiti leisure centre, bars, and wood carving shops.
