Ortisei, at an altitude of 1236m, is a picturesque old town considered to be the principal community and cultural centre of Italy's major ski area Selva/Val Gardena. Although it is linked with the renowned Selva Ronda circuit via free bus service, it also has a small skiing area of its own. The Sella Ronda itself comprises of a 50km ski circuit, encompassing four regions through dozens of small villages. It is part of the Dolomiti Superski region, which covers some 1200km of pistes and is served by 460 ski lifts. Apart from the good scenery, skiing opportunities and local cuisine, the resort is famous for its wood carving.
