Ortisei
The picturesque ancient town of Ortisei is situated at 1236 m altitude and is the main cultural and municipal centre in Val Gardena, northern Italy. It is embedded in the marvellous Dolomites, one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Italy. A wonderful ski resort with a long tradition in hospitaity, Ortisei is a place of peace and tranquilty. It offers all sorts of leisure and sport activties to suit every taste. With its blue skies, pure mountain air, healthy climate and sunshine as a constant companion, high slopes and gorgeous panoramas, Ortisei is the ideal destination for a ski holiday. This town has an old and stable traditions and rich history, it has a peculiar urbanplan, which blends harmoniously with the landscape. Ortisei’s centre and its pedestrian area are a wonderful meeting place and ideal spot for shopping. From here people may easily wander off into the woods and reach an old farm. The Alpe di siusi and Seceda may be reached through comfortable litfs. The Alpine meadows and ski pistes rise up to 2518 m and the mountain peaks up to 3181m. Ortisei has a small skiing area and has easy connections with neighbouring Selva Gardena and the famous Stella Ronda ski Circuit by a free bus service.

The resort is a part of a large region with an access to the Dolomiti superski pass, which cover an amazing length of 120 km of pistes served by 460 ski lifts. Buses may take you back to Bolzano or you can drive in the opposite direction to Passo di Gardena and Passo di Sella. The central Seceda gondola connects Ortisei to the Sella Ronda, where advanced skiers may try the men’s World Downhill run en-route. The resort has direct access to 19 km of downhill piste with 7 individual pistes served by 7 ski lifts. It is good for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers. Snow is variable but skiing takes place at middle altitudes. Ortisei offers good boarding because there is a Snow Park.

Ortisei offers a variety of apres-ski activities. It is a market place with many small shops, restaurants, pizzerias and bars. Accomodation is mainly provided by family-run hotels. The most popular are the Siglu bar and the Bar Mauritz offering amusement up to the small hours. Sports activities include winter walking, bowling, toboganning, tennis and squash, ice skating, sleigh rides. There is a Fitness and Spa Centre, a swimming pool, there are craft shops offering famous wood carvings.
