Situated in the widest point of the Fassa Valley at the height of 1320 m in Northern Italy, in the heart of the Dolomites, Pozza di Fassa is a large territorial extension and an important resort. It is composed of the small hamlets of Meida, Pera and Moncion. In close proximity to Pozza di Fassa one can discover the skiing resort Aloch, which is iluminated all night long and is like a real snow stadium “Ski Stadium Val di Fassa” with slopes where trainings, high level races and international competitions take place. Tita Piaz, one of the
greatest mountaineers, known as the "Devil of the Dolomites" was born in Pera, a hamlet of Pozza. In Pozza di Fassa there is the School of arts, the forming centre of local sculptors and decorators.
The view of Pozza di Fassa is dominated by the magnificient Cima Undici and Cima Dodici, where the Rio S.Nicolo flows into the river Aviso, a location typical for the Dolomites and with a long tradition in mountaineering. From here people can reach the marvellous mineralogical and geological areas in the Monzoni Group, a classic phenomenon dating back to hundreds of years ago.
The name Pozza comes from the Italian for puddle, and the place offers real great opportunities for skiing. The city is proud of its panoramic ski area Buffaure connected with the skiing zone of the Ciampac. A chairlift links the village with the Fassa Valley. The ski area Baffaure and the ski stadium at Aloch are an attraction for beginners and intermediate skiers, and those having interest in night skiing. Pozza is connected with the Ciampac, which provides countless skiing experiences with its length of 175 km.
One can find perfect accommodation in the cosy family-owned hotels in Pozza di Fassa proud with their international guests. In the summer, Pozza di Fassa is an important camping destination offering excursions, hiking, geology exploring, and all the fascinating sense of green meadows and fresh air. People are advised to take the time to visit the neighbouring San Nicolo Valley: this area is famous with its beautiful meadows, traditional mountain church, Alpine huts and, last but not less important, its refuges providing the opportunity of descending the valley on a sleight in wintertime. Among the attractions the village provides are ski courses for adults and children, skating rink on site, ski and minibuses taking people to the lifts to ski on some of the most fascinating ski runs in the whole of the Alps with a connection to the Sella Ronda.
